It's all green to me

This is the first "vintage" piece I ever bought. Long ago, say three years or so at a local boutique Revival. It's a very simple velvet dress, but it's pretty and has a good shape. It was warm and I was sleepy. Which means a dress is the perfect solution.

Anna and I are able to take pictures together again and it's so very nice. Thanks, Anna. The cool thing about hanging out with Anna is, we make fun of ourselves a lot and we usually exchange some kind of clothing. Today it was the dress off her back and a pair of shoes. She's a real sweet gal.

A Children's Crusade on Acid

Whenever I drive on the highway near my house, I see this graffiti. Under the bridge and near the train tracks. It's no secret that I love doing photos in front of graffiti. Who doesn't?! My boyfriend and I found a spot to park and did some climbing. It was awesome and we both had a really good time. Until the authorities showed up and threatened us. Turns out we were trespassing (duh) and it could cost us each $10,000 if they prosecuted. We apologized and walked off. But I always say, "it's not a photo adventure until the authorities kick you out." Okay, I actually only say that when we get kicked out of places. It's good to be dangerous. Sometimes.

This is a really simple outfit composed of basics. I love this skirt. I scored it in Denver at UO for five dollars. These boots are my favorite and I cannot wait to wear them every single day.

Let's paint our teeth green

This is my first day of school outfit. Simple and comfortable. This is an entirely thrifted/swapped outfit. That always feels like an accomplishment. I wish I had something to say, but I'm exhausted from school, using my brain and focusing. Plus there's that whole work issue and the whole new job while still working old job problem. And then there's that whole sleep thing getting in the way of everything I need to do and should be doing. Sleep is great, but it takes up so much valuable productive time. Maybe it would be nice to be a robot.

Like a child I became disillusioned

This dress is very old and by very old, I mean three or four years old. I bought it on sale at Urban Outfitters long before I was "fashionable". Right before a Feist concert. My friend and I had front row seats and it was beautiful. It's not often that cowboy boots go with my outfits, but when they do, I'm all over it.

For my birthday, I woke up way too early and went to breakfast at this new breakfast/bakery. We ordered a chocolate croissant (European style!) to go and they serve Angel Falls Coffee (the best coffee in Akron) and for my main entree I had a Nutella crepe topped with crème chantilly and fresh fruit. Can we say BEST. BREAKFAST. EVER? My sister and boyfriend had french toast infused with Jameson and topped with crème chantilly and fruit. We shared a potato croquette and it was magical. I love breakfast and food in general.

I'm not much of a bag lady. I'm under the assumption that the bigger the bag, the more "baggage" the lady carries around. Both literally and in the sense of her "mental baggage". I know this is illogical, but I believe it. I carry a wallet and my car keys on a bracelet. I'm minimalistic. This bag was given to me by a lovely red headed beautiful girl named Liz. Seriously. This girl has the best head of hair and this bag is tiny, practical, and fun.

Oh, and I got my hair done! I went to the salon my friend works at and we had this grand plan for it. She went to do the second step and realized a second too late that her co-workers hadn't properly cleaned a brush and my entire head was ruined. She fixed it, but definitely not our original plan. Oops.

Friday Feature: Akron Bloggers

Our original plan for today's post fell through. It happens, so, we're improvising. Improvising is a skill we excel in and by excel in, I mean, we stare at each other until one of us has a vague idea and then we make faces until it transforms into an actual idea. We're a great team, I promise you.

In the past six months of blogging, we've developed impeccable relationships with bloggers all over the country, but we've also formed real life friendships with fabulous bloggers right here in Akron, Ohio. We've had clothing swaps, attended fashion shows, had dinner, went on thrifting adventures, attended lunches at Saks Fifth Avenue, and most of all, we stalk each others blogs. The ladies right here in our own city are some of the most inspiring people in our lives and you know what? They're wonderful in real life too.

This is our ode to Akron and more specifically Akron's bloggers.

The Wild Things

I love this mural. Is it a mural or just a wall painting? I'm not sure about the logistics, but I love it. It reminds me of Akron's version of the Wild Things. It's fun and playful. It's in the center of downtown Akron, but you'd never know it. It's a serious hidden gem. I dare you to find it or actually I don't because I'm territorial. Anyways, anyways.

This outfit is reminiscent of a "back to school" look. Which is appropriate considering school starts on Monday. This tank top is awesome because a) it's silky in the front b) the back is a different pattern and material. Oh, and there's a pocket. This is a really simple look, but with the oxfords and satchel, I dressed it up and gave it a less casual vibe. Don't mind the fact that I forgot to do my hair before I left the house. It happens, I know. But with me it happens every day.

This week is exciting because it's the last week of summer break, my nephew's third birthday, my birthday (on Sunday), and a birthday show. I'm so excited because one of my favorite singers, Tim Kasher (of Cursive and the Good Life) will be here on my birthday. Best birthday present.

Let me occupy my mind, let me pacify my soul

This dress is from a vintage boutique and it screams "50's". It's so flattering and so incredibly heavy. It's been raining for the past two days and I don't exactly need an excuse to wear cardigans. This cardigan was a rare Nicole Miller thrift find for $1.50. I channeled my inner 50's housewife, teased up my hair, wore a skinny belt, fancy heels, went to breakfast, and later cleaned the house. No, seriously. I did chores in this number. Call me crazy, call me what you will, but my house is sparklin' clean.

I've worn this dress before with blue tights, booties, and short BRIGHT red hair. See it here. Lauren also styled up this dress. I love the shoes and bag she chose. Oh, and I guess this dress screams "PEARLS" too.

Saturday Baking: Red Velvet Cupcakes

I love baking. I really do, but I have the hardest of times following directions. I understand the purpose of specific instructions, but that's not how my brain works. My brain wants to throw things together haphazardly. Thus I bake alone and never tell anyone. I've never really had a problem not following instructions and I've never baked from a box, so I think I'm onto something.

Most of the time I create my own recipes because I have a texture issue. There are certain ingredients that make the best textures for particular flavors. Other times, I'm lazy and use the internet. There are a handful of blogs whose recipes rarely fail me, but sometimes recipes just don't work out. It's always like a little experiment.

Let's Cross the Sea and Get Some Culture

GUYS, HELLO, I'M WEARING JEANS. For the first time on the blog and for the first time in almost two years. I feel strange. I feel less pretty. I feel awkward and I feel over clothed. Oh, and I'm wearing glasses. Who is this girl? I can't say I hated the pants, but I can't say I was in love or anything. It's kind of how I feel about most things...indifferent? Yeah, I'll call this my look of indifference.

This shirt, however, is silky, smooth, pretty and was incredibly high priced at $3.00. Ouch.

It was chilly today! Thunderstorms, wind storms, breezes, faint rain, heavy rain, pretty skies, chills in my body. Can that be permanent? Please. Pretty please?

Such Blinding Stars for Starving Eyes

This is another item from the mail swap with Rachel. She wore it as an actual skirt, me, I wore it as a top. It was comfortable and colorful. Two things I've always loved. Though, I must admit in hindsight, this might not be my most flattering get up. But who says they're ever flattering? These sparkle shorts are from the clothing swap. I thought we were in love, but now my legs are torn up and bloody. Turns out, sequins are brutal. But so is most love, right? Right. I will always justify pain.

Oh, and this weekend I saw one of my favorite bands, River City Extension. So, I'd say it was a successful weekend. Even if my first car is officially dead and even if I were kicked in the head three times at the concert.

Backwards Walk

I've worn this skirt a million times before. Okay, maybe only a handful of times and I always like the results. My only issue is it's a little big. This was right after I washed it though and it fit perfectly...for three hours. This shirt is from the swap. It's ridiculously heavy yet breezy. Nonsense! I like color though, so this outfit is very very me.

It's August? So strange. My birthday is coming up and school starts incredibly soon. My summer has been so very chill and the aforementioned means it's coming to an end soon. It's always bittersweet.

Do any of you watch True Blood? I'm in the beginning of season three and I'm completely addicted.
