I used to think the Avett Brothers were my favorite band, but then they released their last record and it was quite possibly one of the worst records I had ever heard. Which led me to think, "What is my favorite band? Who has never created a record that disappointed me?" And my questions led me to Tim Kasher. Luckily for me, Tim is always making music. He is the front man of both the Good Life and Cursive. There's also his solo project that I love even more than the rest of his music if that's possible. He consistently blows me away and even more than that, his live performances are always different and hilarious.
When I was younger, my friend and I drove 14 hours to Omaha just to see him play his unreleased record from start to finish. Crazy, probably, but being in Omaha where so many musicians that I love are from was truly an experience. I saw references from his songs on every street and I got to visit the park one of his records is named after. Did you know when you enter Nebraska it says "Welcome to the Good Life" and that the Greyhound on Jackson Street is real or that Saddle Creek (the label he and Bright Eyes and many others are on) is an actual street?
Plus I must always mention that he has a song called "the Jessica" and he dedicated it to me on my birthday -- which seeing him on my birthday was amazing enough, but also hearing his shout my name will never get old.
All of this is a really long way to say that Tim Kasher is my favorite person currently making music and our non-mutual love affair has been happening since I was fourteen and I've yet to tire of his music.
