I am an island

This is what I wore to the Goodwill Good Style fashion show. Ashley let me borrow this beautiful dress and I couldn't resist showing it off. It's one of those conversation starter dresses. I wasn't sure how I could casually wear it, so I wore it to a fancy event. Mission accomplished. These photos were taken by Abby and Rachel. I'm not sure which took which, but you should all visit them because they are hilarious and beautiful and lovely. I feel so lucky to live in a place with such a strong blogging community. These ladies have surpassed blogging friends to become real life friends. I mean, we text each other, ride in cars together, and hang out at each others places. That's like real friendship, right?

Last night I got caught in a flood/semi-tornado. It was one of those crazy moments when you question every choice you made in the last hour and start hyperventilating. My boyfriend and I live on the second floor of an apartment complex with no basement. We were out before it got bad and he REALLY needed some medicine. Our plan: get medicine and head to a friend's basement a few streets over.

In an instant, the weather got insane. I saw a cart fly into the air, we couldn't see anything, our car was shaking. It totally seemed like an achievable task until we hit about three feet of water. Our car shut off and we were submerged. We weren't the only ones floating, but I was terrified. To me, it was like those end of the world movies where you know you're gonna die. Like looting and learning to swim will be the next step in your life.

Can you tell I'm not a calm person in life threatening situations? After about two hours he rain slowed, the drains started working, and the traffic picked up. While it was all very horrifying, it was nice to see all the other people stuck coming together to help us get out of the middle of the street and into safety. The car still won't turn on, but we aren't sure the level of damage. Mostly I'm just glad I survived and live tweeted the whole thing for the memories.

  1. This dress is perfect on you! I love how it compliments your tattoos and the length looks much better on you than I.

I'm so happy you're okay! I was seriously worried about you guys. I hope the car is okay too. I know I'm far away but if you ever need anything let me know :).

That dress is amazing. I love how it matches your hair (or vice versa....).

  3. So glad you guys are okay, thought of you when I heard about the storms there. When COlorado got the huge flood last year, I seriously relied on twitter more than anything for live updates of what was happening, which is kind of crazy. Anyway, your hair/ dress combo is beautiful and I am just noticing the style by season section on your sidebar, which is SO COOL! Have a great day!

  5. I have no idea how to wear this dress casually either, I just save it for weddings and stuff...and good thing I have a crapload to go to this year, so I've been able to put it to good use. Also, as a Californian, I have no idea how you guys don't freak out with every tornado! One of my friends said it's as normal as earthquakes here (which never really bother me). Good to hear you're okay :)

  7. I'm not sure how I missed the live tweeting, but I'm SO glad you're okay!!! Also, you look stunning in this dress (I have it too, and I can't make it work for casual events, either). I love seeing your tattoo with it, too!

  15. that really does sound terrifying! I can never remember, cars do float eventually is that right? i always remember in those movies where cars go crashing into the water but I can't remember what happens later. i guess three feet isn't the same but in the Phoenix area there are only occasional floods during the monsoons and then it's just generally the outskirts that for some reason seem to have been built without flood control on the roads so that story really does sound terrifying to me. so glad you all are ok! and onto the outfit, this looks like the perfect stylish outfit for the fashion show. i esp love that second to last pic, you look gorgeous!

  16. 1. Can't. Handle. How perfect. This outfit is with your hair.

    2. That sounds terrifying. It was absolutely insane outside on Monday – when I was driving to work Tuesday, the normal route I take was blocked off and I saw at least three abandoned cars on the road (which was cracking). It seriously looked like something out of The Walking Dead.

I'm so glad you guys are okay!!
