Never Meant

I had one of the best weekends I've had in a really long time. Skyla and I headed to Champaign-Urbana, Illinois (a seven hour drive!) to see American Football's first official show in fifteen years. Which is kind of a really big deal. We also got to see other bands like Bishop Allen, Owen, and Into it. Over It. There was also a lit fest, comedy, and tons of exploring/good food. I'm working on a whole post full of photos and details of our adventures -- where I'll bore you with the details.

American Football is fronted by Mike Kinsella (Owen, Cap 'N Jazz) and he's been a very prominent fixture in my life. He's one of those musicians that is always creating in different bands and I have been a huge fan of every single one of them. I am beyond obsessed with his voice and the way in which he writes simple yet emotionally catastrophic lyrics. American Football was one of those bands that got me through those sad teenaged years of mine. Getting the chance to see it live when I never thought I would, all these years later, was a truly monumental moment in my life.

It was extraordinarily hot while in Illinois. I don't own a lot of tops, so I thought this mixed print combination would be perfect for a day of exploring a new city in the heat & seeing some bands live. It had a lot going on, but sometimes it's fun to break fashion rules and where something out of your comfort zone, right? Right.
