What I'm Watching, Reading, & Listening to #7

It's been well over a year since I last did an update in this series which is wild because pop culture is my absolute favorite. I've watched a lot of good television, read a lot of great books, and listened to some really insightful podcasts. So, I'll definitely be back with more of my favorites.

Star Wars: Rogue One
Okay, so I'm not really a Star Wars fan. I've tried to watch them, but they've always just bored me. This one, however, had me hooked. I was captivated by the story and I'm a sucker for dark endings. Now I almost want to watch the rest of the Star Wars series...?

READING

Tell the Wolves I'm Home
I picked this book up at the library because I liked the cover. I needed something to read on an airplane and I didn't expect to fall in love with it. The narrator is a young girl that has an unusual relationship with her Uncle. Her Uncle has AIDS and when he dies she discovers an entire side of him she never knew. By exploring her Uncle's secret past, she grows closer to her family and herself.

Ready Player One
I read this book over the summer, but it's one that I am constantly recommending to people. I've never read a book like this and I couldn't read another book for a month because nothing else compared. Oh, and it's becoming a movie soon. So, even more reason to read this, now!

WATCHING

You're The Worst
I cannot believe I slept on this show for so long. I loved it so much, I watched almost an entire season in one day. It's a show about two highly dysfunctional people that meet at a wedding and form a not-so typical romance. It's messy, it's dark, it's hilarious, and it's extremely well done. Highly recommend this show if you love laughing until you cry and crying until you laugh.

The Good Place
Kristen Bell is one of my favorite actresses. I have loved everything she's ever been a part of. So, when I heard she had a new show coming out, I was hooked. It's a really wacky show about a girl that dies and wakes up in the "Good Place". That place being the spot between Heaven and Hell. Only, there was a mistake and she's supposed to be in Hell and as a result the world around her is falling a part. Oh, and Ted Danson is also in it, so, obviously this is a must watch.

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life
Gilmore Girls was one of the shows that got me into teen dramas. I loved everything about the fast pace in which the Gilmore's spoke, the way they constantly reference pop culture, and their overwhelming love of each other and coffee. Like everyone else on the internet, I could not wait for the reboot. I can't say that I loved everything that happened or that it didn't feel a little bit weird. But boy, did it feel good to have the Gilmore's back.

LISTENING

Bayside is one of those bands I sort of listened to in high school, but somehow forgot about. They released a new record in August and went on tour with my favorite band, The Menzingers. So, I decided to start listening to them again. Honestly, I'm not sure why I ever stopped? The new record Vacancy is the best record they've ever released. Six months later and I'm still just as addicted as I was when it came out. Their entire discography is worthy of checking out, but this is a truly stand out cohesive record.
